The Shape of Flight: An Anthology
6 podcast episodes to tell the story
Every Day Genius — A Six-Part Series
Some ideas arrive fully formed.
Most don't.
This one started with a butterfly.
Specifically, with the discovery that a butterfly doesn't flap its wings — it contracts its body, and the wings trace a figure eight through the air. A slanted infinity loop. Two forces, one shape, a crossing point where energy trades hands continuously without burning out.
And then the discovery that your body does the same thing. Every time you walk across a room, your center of mass moves through a figure eight — confirmed by biomechanics researchers, replicated across decades of study, present in your stride since you were five years old.
And then the word genius, whose Latin root doesn't mean exceptional. It means generative. A spirit assigned to you at birth, yours to release — not earn, not prove, not justify.
And then a building I walked out of, with a silent scream on my lips and everything it couldn't hold.
This series is what I built from all of that.
Six episodes that tells the story of Every Day Genius. A complete arc. A place to begin — or begin again.

BEGIN or BEGIN AGAIN
Episode 1 — *[166] Rediscovering the Genius Within*
It's Always Been There
Start Here: The podcast has been building now for 165 days but I start anew, with an orientation. In episodes 166 - 171, I will introduce you to Every Day Genius in a way that will ground you in the work of rediscovering your Genius, some enlightening word root revelations, and culminating in the origin story - my story - of Every Day Genius.
Today we dive deep into the word Genius as a birthright. It's not what we've been taught, and this revelation will change everything.
Before the framework, the word. The Latin genius was not a quality you possessed — it was a spirit that accompanied you. Generative. Particular. Yours at birth. This episode redefines the word at the center of everything that follows — and quietly changes what it means to say every day genius.
The episode that answers: what if genius was never something you had to earn?
Episode 2 — *[167] The Walking that Creates the Path*
The Revolutionary Power in Pathing
Maybe we don't need to awaken as much as we need to be a'walkin'. Puns aside, today I connect the words walk from the Old English with caminar - to walk in Spanish. I relate it to our expression of Genius. It's not as linear as you think it is.
The Old English root of walk means to turn. Not to advance in a straight line — to revolve, to roll, to move in a figure eight. The Spanish caminar shares its root with path — the walking that creates the road, not just follows it. And the Irish blessing that most of us have heard without quite listening to.
The episode that answers: what if the path doesn't exist until you move?
Episode 3 — *[168] The Shape of Flight*
The Flutter is Only Part of the Story
We started with Genius, and walk, over the last two episodes. Now, we fly, and we look at the shape of flight, in the butterfly AND how it actually mirrors how you move when you walk.
We're building toward all things Every Day Genius. Are you ready to fly?
The science. A butterfly's wings trace a figure eight. Your body's center of mass traces a figure eight. The bow-tie, confirmed by biomechanics researchers, present in your stride since age five. When the shape breaks down, the energy cost doubles. When it holds, the motion carries you.
The episode that answers: what does genius look like from the outside?
Episode 4 — *[169] The Möbius Question*
The Power of a Half Twist
Have you ever heard of a Mobius Strip? It can be formed by attaching the ends of a strip of paper together with a half-twist. Because it only has one continuous surface its application in real life is unlike any other.
Although I don't touch on this in the episode, a mobius strip might be used as a mechanical belt that wears evenly on both sides. There's something about that that conserves both energy and materials, and its relevant to the podcast today.
A strip of paper, one half-twist, two ends joined. One surface. No inside or outside. No break in the motion. The exhaustion of managing yourself as two competing forces — and the relief of discovering they were never separate. The difference between a Möbius strip and a cylinder. The difference between flight and a loop that goes nowhere.
The episode that answers: what does genius feel like from the inside?
Episode 5 — *[170] The Crossing Point*
The Point of Generative Energy
We've been talking about the infinity loop, the figure-8, the Mobius Strip of continuous movement. But there's an inflection point where direction changes. On the EDG Butterfly Map, it's called the Crossing Point. It's not a 4 way stop, but a pass through for gaining energy. When you are learning to work with two opposing conflicts within you, the Crossing Point where they meet and where the real magic happens. It's already there for you. You just have to be able to see it.
Both shapes — the figure eight and the Möbius strip — have something in common. A place of transformation built into the motion. Not a stop. A pass-through. This episode asks you to find yours — the particular threshold, practice, or quality of attention where the energy shifts and the making becomes meaning.
The episode that answers: where does transformation actually live in your day?
Episode 6 — *[171] The Day I Walked Out*
How it All Started
The origin story. The building. The red ink every morning. The meeting dressed as feedback. The silent scream. The years of leaving jobs and calling it failure — without understanding that what I was carrying out of every one of those buildings was not failure. It was everything those buildings couldn't hold.
The episode that answers: why does Every Day Genius exist — and is it for me?
WHAT COMES NEXT
If something in this series named something you've been carrying — the shape is real, and it's yours, and there's more.
The Every Day Genius ebook — the framework, written down. The two wings. The crossing point. The Blue Flame. How to find the shape of your own flight.

The EDG Assessment — a place to begin the mapping. Which wing is dominant. Where the figure eight is holding and where it's collapsed. What your particular genius pattern looks like.

Flight School — for those who want to do this work in community, with support, over time. The Ungated Community is open. Cohorts and Courses launching soon.

Every Day Genius is a framework for the person who has felt their signal received as noise. Who has left jobs and called it failure. Who is flying on one wing and exhausted by the effort of pretending otherwise.
You didn't lose your genius in those buildings.
You carried it out.
